Summary of achievements 2010-11

In 2010/11 work continued on the development and delivery of high quality, affordable and accessible services, in partnership with our key stakeholders, Fife Council and NHS Fife, and other agencies.

The following summary identifies the achievements that have taken place during that period. Awards, Recognition and Achievements
  • Bowhill Swimming Pool was awarded VisitScotland 3 star status (up from 2 star in previous assessment)
  • The Company became a signatory to the Accord for the Protection of Children in Scottish Sport
  • Mystery Shopper Visits were undertaken with a satisfaction score of 76% recorded
  • The Company became the first organisation in Scotland to offer discounted access to participants of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
  • Three members of staff were awarded a distinction in event management from the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management
  • 20 members of staff received accreditation on the Institute of Customer Services Management programme
  • The Company was recognised by the Institute of Sports, Parks and Leisure Scotland (ISPAL) as an organisation that contributes to improving the health of their community, employees or other stakeholders through physical activity interventions.
Property Development and Improvement
  • A programme of planned maintenance was delivered in partnership with Fife Council at a cost of £295,000
  • Improvements were made to internal and external signage at sport and leisure centres at a cost of £62,000
  • Duloch Leisure Centre was transferred to the Trust in January 2011
    Commencement of a programme to upgrade CCTV equipment at Sport and Leisure Centres

Service Improvements

  • A PR and Media company (The Big Partnership) was engaged to provide 24/7 stand by crisis management press coverage and to undertake a programme of producing regular monthly good news stories
  • The Company launched its own bespoke concession scheme
    Fast track ticketing terminals were installed at nine sport and leisure centres
  • Replacement Technogym equipment was installed at FIPRE and Kirkcaldy Swimming Pool to enhance the gyms
  • In partnership with Fife Council the Company launched Scotland's first school based TV network to promote healthy living in secondary schools
  • The content of the Company's website was enhanced and this significantly contributed to a 10% increase in website visits compared to 2009/10
  • An Information Technology Action Plan was developed and £90k allocated for its implementation
  • A Meet the Manager initiative was introduced to improve dialogue between the Company's operational management team and users of sport and leisure facilities

Health and Physical Activity Initiatives

  • Two Fitness Advisors were appointed to deliver health and physical activity programmes at centres across Fife
  • Outreach programmes were introduced in West Fife in partnership with Fife Council's Active Fife team
  • Active Options, an exercise referral programme, was established in partnership with NHS Fife who provided funding towards the initiative
  • The Company worked in partnership with the YMCA to deliver the Plus One Mentoring Programme (an effective intervention programme for vulnerable and troubled young people who are either first time offenders or a cause for concern)
  • Winning by Losing (adult healthy weight programme) was extended and classes organised at Bowhill Swimming Pool, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, Duloch Leisure Centre, FIPRE and Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre
  • The Healthy Working Lives initiative (a programme that supports employers and employees to promote healthy lifestyles) was launched with 32 members signed up to the process.
  • The BEST programme (child healthy weight) continued to be delivered for young people between the ages of 5 and 15 years old in partnership with NHS Fife
  • The Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme was expanded with 37 classes taking place throughout Fife.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III, delivered by NHS Fife, is now operating at Cupar Sports Centre.
  • The Company continued to work in partnership with NHS Fife to offer discounted rates to individuals attending QuitFit (smoking cessation programme) and support
  • RIVERS (pain management programme) by offering 'Keeping Afloat' maintenance classes.
  • The Company was invited to take part in an initiative to support Dunfermline becoming one of the British Heart Foundation's 50 Heart Towns
