Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if a class is right for my level of fitness?
If you have never exercised before it is best to start with a low impact classes such as Bums, Tums and Thighs which is suitable for beginners. This will allow you to get used to the demands of the class. If you are new to a class, please make yourself know to the instructor prior to participation in the class.

What do I wear to classes?
Loose fitting cotton clothing is popular for exercise as it is light breathable and comfortable eg a t-shirt and leggings. Extra long wide legged trousers should be avoided as you could trip on them.

It is important to wear the right footwear that gives stability, cushioning and comfort. If you are going to buy exercise footwear, visit a sports shop and explain the type of activity you will be undertaking to gain the best possible advice.

I have a medical condition
Before starting any new fitness regime, it is advisable to seek medical advice from your GP if you have any cause for concern with your health. If you are given the go ahead from your GP to take part, please speak to the instructor prior to participation in the class.

Is there anything I should bring with me to the class?
We suggest you bring a drink to keep yourself hydrated while you exercise. Most facilities have sports drinks and water in the vending machines close to reception. You should also bring along a towel.

Is there a minimum age?
You must be aged 16 or over although there are junior gym classes available for those aged 12 – 16.

How do I book a class?
To book a class you should go to the reception desk in the centre the class is taking place. If you are a Fifestyle cardholder you can book a class 8 days in advance. Non Fifestyle cardholders can book classes 7 days in advance. Leisure Active platinum card holders can book classes over the telephone.

Can I just turn up for a class?
Yes, however we recommend that you contact the leisure centre where the class is taking place to ensure that there is space available, especially for evening classes.

What if I am unable to attend a class that I have booked?
You should give the centre 24 hour notice if you have to cancel a fitness class. We will offer you an alternative booking or class. If this is not suitable we will give you a refund. If you fail to give 24 hours notice of a cancellation you will be charged for the class.
