Fife Sports and Leisure Trust

Fitness Instructors Profiles - Jamie Smith

Q1:  How long have you worked in the fitness industry?

I am relatively new at working in the fitness industry. I became ETM qualified November 2014 and started freelance work January 2015.

When I was in my 20s I was very unfit and weighed about 250 lbs, within a year I lost almost 100 lbs by changing my diet but didn’t exercise. I maintained this weight for a while, but in 2011 I was asked if I would like to be involved with Maggies Monster Bike & Hike raising money for Maggies Centres. This involved cycling 30 miles then walking 44 miles all the way to Inverness from Fort William.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have over 200 classes per week across Fife.

I started my fitness journey from there. Each year I did the event I got fitter with help from the Fife Leisure instructors who helped me reach my goals. With the help from the instructors, in both 2013 and 2014 I reached Gold finish in Inverness and completed the challenge in less than 20 hours.

In 2014 I decided to complete my ETM qualification as I really love being involved in fitness and I have learned so much about myself and still learning all the time.

Q2: What classes do you deliver for the trust?

Circuit Training and Metafit. I have also completed my certification training for both Body Pump and RPM and currently cover classes as and when I am needed within the trust.

Q3: What do you love about your job?

The challenge it brings and seeing class members taking the next level in their fitness goals.  In my short time of delivering classes I have seen massive changes in people including myself.

Q4:  What’s your favourite workout & why?

There are three I love; Body Pump, RPM and Meta-fit. I love teaching them as I don’t hold back and I give 110% in every class. I can’t wait to be able to teach my own RPM and Body pump classes as I am currently covering classes within the trust.

I have a passion for LES MILLS GRIT SERIES, and planning on doing my training in August.

Q5: On your days off, where can we find you?

Days off? What are they? :)  Currently I work Monday to Friday at Paywizard PLC in Kirkcaldy as a System Tester and the rest of my spare time is spent learning new routines and doing my own training including cover classes and my own classes.

Mostly a day off for me is a Sunday and I often decide to have a relaxing day watching t.v.

Q6: If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

To be honest, not sure what I would do but would be nice to travel the world.
