Finding a sports team

Start your own team

Start your own team

Can’t find a sports club you want to join? Nothing happening in your area? Then why not start your own sports team?

What’s your game?
First things first, you need to choose a sport. You should pick one that you are familiar with. Maybe one that you already play, or have always wanted to play.

Team mates!
You can’t be the only member of your team. If you already have friends who are interested in the same sport as you, then this bit should be easy!

You can find potential team mates by:

  • asking around, friends, friends of friends
  • advertise online through social networking sites
  • make up flyers/posters and display them throughout town
  • advertise your club though the local radio community section

Finding Somewhere to Train

  • Contact your local leisure centre. They will talk you through the booking system. If your team is going to meet every week, ask about our block booking scheme for regular users.
  • Find a day or night that all of your team members can attend, then schedule team practices for this time.
  • Check out our team sports pages for more information on what facilities are available at each leisure centre.
  • Then you need to put in the practise - Well you know what they say, practice makes perfect!

Lastly, play! That's what this was all about in the first place, isn't it?
