Charitable trust relaunches Get Moving campaign

Charitable trust relaunches Get Moving campaign as the first winner completes cycle challenge

Our campaign to encourage locals to get moving throughout 2022 with the chance to a three-month leisure active membership and personal training sessions is being relaunched as a previous winner completes his fundraising goal.

We first launched the campaign to get people active in January with an aim to encourage people to look beyond new year’s resolutions and make getting active a long-term objective so that more people can enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits associated with getting active. Now, six months on, we are offering another chance to Leisure Active passes and personal training sessions with our qualified instructors to encourage people to get active.

The move comes as Calum Paterson, age 28, from Dunfermline, winner of a Platinum Leisure Active annual membership in the January campaign, recently completed his London to Paris cycle fundraising challenge. Calum, who lost an impressive 17 stones since getting active using our facilities, raised £1,821 for children’s cancer charities.

Calum said: “Winning the Get Active Leisure Active membership was a huge boost to my training programme before I started my Paris cycle – I had unlimited access to trust facilities so that I could stay on track with my goal.

I cycled 200 miles over three days and it was a great experience and I’m very grateful to everyone who has supported me and made my challenge and fundraising so successful.”

As with the previous campaign, those taking up the challenge are being encouraged to share their goals and physical activity stories with us in the hope that it will motivate others to get active.

Scott Urquhart, head of operations for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We’d like to say a huge well done to Calum for completing his cycle and we’re delighted he was able to make use of facilities to train for his fundraising efforts.

“In January we had a fantastic response to our Get Moving campaign and we’d encourage as many local people as possible to take part now – it’s for everyone, from beginners or those with experience who might be training for a specific event or personal goal – our team will be on hand to offer expert advice and tips to help people stay motivated and most of all, enjoy getting active with all the rewards it delivers for our mental and physical wellbeing.”

Evelyn Crichton, group fitness class instructor for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We are constantly engaging with participants of the group fitness class programme and we very much appreciate their feedback with regards to the classes so that we can deliver the best experience.

The investment at East Sands has come about thanks to feedback from users and I’m really looking forward to welcoming them back to their upgraded space to enjoy our group fitness sessions.”
