Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre to Undergo Transformational Refurbishment in Spring 2024

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is gearing up for an exciting project to revitalise Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre in partnership with Fife Council and Fife Cultural Trust. The initiative involves a comprehensive refurbishment, including relocating the local library to within the leisure centre premises. This exciting initiative aims to establish an integrated hub that blends leisure and cultural offerings, creating a vibrant community environment for the residents of Fife.

Starting in April 2024, the project is anticipated to span approximately 14 months. The regular operations at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre will remain uninterrupted until the commencement of the works. Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is committed to providing alternative facilities to support continued activities and ensure minimal disruption. Discussions have already been initiated with local partners in the Cowdenbeath area to facilitate this smooth transition. Details outlining the specifics of this transition will be communicated in due course.

Emma Walker, CEO at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said:

“Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre is a vital part of the community, promoting physical activity, sports, and leisure. To continue delivering exceptional services, we are embarking on an ambitious renovation project to rejuvenate the centre. We are currently in the design phase of the project, coupled with ongoing consultations with our valued customers. This ambitious endeavour promises an array of benefits for both customers and the broader community. These advantages encompass expanded capacity, enhanced service offerings, and strengthened community integration.”

Marcus Kenyon, Chief Operating Officer of Fife Cultural Trust, which runs OnFife Libraries, said:

“This is a really exciting project and one that will give us the opportunity to make our library service available to more people. It will be business as usual at the High Street library until we move in 2025 but the team are very much looking forward to sharing updates with customers as the project progresses.”

The transformation will cover various aspects of the facility, including relocating the existing High Street library to the leisure centre. Improvements to the gym area are planned, along with the introduction of dedicated fitness and aerobic studios. Substantial efforts will be dedicated to revitalising the sauna, steam room, and changing areas. The comprehensive plan also includes upgrading and repurposing the Synthetic Turf Pitch. The Early Years provision at the centre will move to a modular unit next to the Maxwell Centre for the duration of the works.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is grateful for its customers’ understanding and cooperation during this transitional period. The forthcoming redevelopment of Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre marks a significant step toward a more dynamic and integrated communal space.
