Customer takes on cycle challenge to raise funds for charitable trust
A local woman is getting set to take on a personal challenge and raise funds to help support people across Fife living with long-term health conditions.
Emma Muldoon from Glenrothes, is training to take part in the Caledonian Etape a 40-mile cycle starting in Pitlochry to raise funds for the Fife Health and Wellbeing Fund. The fund was launched by us to invest in programmes and facilities to support people in Fife living with long-term health conditions.
Emma was recently the winner of our prize draw to acknowledge the support of regular customers who chose to continue to pay for programmes and memberships despite doors on facilities being closed. Emma, who regularly attends our facilities with her four children won three months’ Learn to Swim membership.
She said: “I’m passionate about sport and fitness for so many reasons – I have four children who attend swimming lessons and gymnastics at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre and I regularly make use of facilities myself.
“As a family we enjoy access to community sporting facilities – the benefits of getting active for our health and wellbeing are invaluable. That said, I don’t see myself as a natural athlete, but I don’t think that is a barrier to trying lots of different sports and taking on a challenge – if I can do it, anyone can!
“I am not an experienced cyclist which makes the Etape a real challenge for me, but I feel so strongly about the benefits of physical activity and particularly the trust’s programmes which help people living with conditions such as dementia, cancer and cardiac heart disease, that I’m determined to give it a go.”
Emma Walker, chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to Emma for taking on this challenge on behalf of the Fife Health and Wellbeing Fund – any fundraising is hugely appreciated and is used directly for physical activity programmes delivered in local communities
“As a charitable trust, customer loyalty is extremely important and even more so as we work hard through a period of recovery following Covid. We wish Emma every success and hope she enjoys the experience.”
