Fife charity backs campaign to get people moving
The body running sports and leisure venues across Fife has backed a national campaign to get people to become more active.
Fife Sports and Leisure Trust runs 14 sites across the kingdom on behalf of Fife Council.
The charity is supporting “Together We Move” – a promotional push to encourage residents to get moving and improve their health and wellbeing.
Campaign organisers say “every movement counts” . . . “from walking to the shops, to carrying your food shopping, to having a dance with your gran. Find movement that matters to you, to your life, and to your body.”
Sharron McCormick, the Marketing, Communications and Sales Manager at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, says there are lots of benefits to being active.
“You’ll have a better mood and feel happier. You’ll get more energy and reduce your stress levels and also improve your sleep.
“People who are active feel better about themselves and have increased confidence.
“Across our sites, we see people who have transformed their lives by increasing their activity levels and getting involved in sport.”
She added: “Simple steps – like walking to the shops or having a dance around the house – might lead to you joining a dance session at one of our centres, or signing up for a fitness class. You then get all the additional benefits of meeting people, plus the support of our fantastic team of professionals to help you on your fitness journey.”
She said Fife Sports and Leisure Trust had an active health and wellbeing programme, which takes referrals from local health professionals and offers Fife residents discounted access to activity classes.
The charity also runs regular promotional activities to help people access its centres, such as £1 taster sessions for children, as well as low-cost family fun days.
It aims to work with partners to remove barriers to accessing fitness.
The “Together We Move” campaign encourages people to celebrate “Scotland’s movers and shakers” and builds on the national Summer of Sport push, as well as the excitement generated by the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Residents are being asked to give their support by sharing photos and videos of their own activities and using the hashtag #TogetherWeMoveScotland on social media posts.
Organisers say: “Simply share a photo or video of your movement, whether that’s a morning walk to the shops, a wheelchair spin through the park, a dance in your living room, or anything in between. Every movement counts and every story matters.”
