Fife Sports and Leisure Trust Celebrates International Volunteer Day with Recruitment Events

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is celebrating International Volunteer Day by hosting two volunteer recruitment events this December. The first will take place on 7th December from 12pm to 3pm at Carnegie Leisure Centre, followed by a second event on 10th December from 2pm to 7pm at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre.

International Volunteer Day, held annually on 5th December, highlights the vital role volunteers play around the world. This year’s theme, “Every Contribution Matters”, reflects how every act of volunteering, no matter the size, helps strengthen communities and create meaningful change. Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is inviting members of the public to drop in during the December recruitment days to find out what volunteering involves and apply on the day. The events will be informal and welcoming, with staff available to talk through roles, explain the support offered and help people identify opportunities that suit their interests and availability.

Volunteers are at the heart of the organisation’s work, helping local people feel confident, connected and active. The volunteering programme has expanded significantly over the past year. The number of active volunteers has increased by 150%, and there are now more than 13 roles available across aquatics, sport, health and community outreach.

Karen Marsh, Human Resources Manager at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said:

“These events are a great opportunity for anyone who has ever thought about volunteering to come along and see what it involves. It is a brilliant way to build skills, gain confidence, make new connections, and add valuable experience to your CV. Whether someone wants to develop professionally, meet new people or support their community, there is a place for them at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust. International Volunteer Day is about celebrating those who give their time, and we hope these events inspire even more people to get involved.”

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic 1500m T20 gold medallist Owen Miller, who got involved with volunteering at Carnegie Leisure Centre, said:

“Volunteering has been a really rewarding experience for me. It’s great to be part of a team that helps people feel stronger, more confident and part of a community. Seeing how much Fife Sports and Leisure Trust has grown its volunteering programme makes me proud to play a small part in it. Whether you’re an athlete or someone simply wanting to give back, there’s a role for everyone.”

Anyone interested in finding out more is encouraged to attend one of the December recruitment events or visit the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust website to explore current opportunities. The programme offers flexible ways to contribute, whether someone has a few hours to spare or is looking for a regular role.
