Fife Sports and Leisure Trust Extends Gym Opening Hours at Key Club Venues

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is pleased to announce extended weekday gym opening hours at some of its busiest Club venues, supporting greater access and flexibility for members and local communities.

From Saturday, 28th June 2025, weekday gym opening hours at Carnegie Leisure Centre and Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre will be extended to 6.00am to 10.00pm, bringing them in line with the hours already in place at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre. This change responds directly to customer demand for both earlier and later access and reflects the Trust’s commitment to helping more people lead active and healthy lifestyles across Fife.

Emma Walker, Chief Executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “Whether it’s fitting in a workout before the school run or winding down with exercise after work, we know flexibility matters. These extended hours are designed to meet the needs of our diverse membership and make it easier for more people to prioritise their wellbeing.”

The announcement comes as the Trust reports over 500,000 gym attendances across all venues in the past year. Gym usage has increased by 12% year-on-year, supported by the introduction of new strength-based equipment, improved maintenance, and expanded staff support. Modern fitness programmes such as HYROX, MyZone, and Les Mills have also been introduced to give users more variety and challenge in their training.

Significant investments have recently been made at Carnegie Leisure Centre and Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre, including gym refurbishments and the addition of new HYROX training zones. Both venues now feature upgraded equipment and purpose-built Cycle Studios, while Carnegie Leisure Centre has also benefited from the addition of a dedicated Mind and Body Studio.

While the focus of these changes is on gym provision, the Trust also continues to grow its group fitness offer, now delivering over 300 weekly classes, a substantial increase from 200 in early 2024.

Colin Glencorse, Head of Operations at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, added: “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but we’re not stopping here. These extended hours are another step forward in making fitness more accessible, more inclusive, and more aligned with our communities’ needs.”
