Fife support for campaign to boost activity levels

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust – which runs 14 leisure centres across Fife – is supporting National Fitness Day on Wednesday 16th September.

This year’s event has the theme of “Powered by you” – pushing the message that everyone can play their part in getting people to be more active.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is launching a new area of its website, giving advice and support to people starting on their fitness journey.

Marketing, Communications and Sales Manager Sharron McCormick said: “There’s growing evidence that moving our bodies is essential. It helps us feel well, both mentally and physically.

“In the UK today, physical activity is helping millions of people to reduce their risk of illness and manage health conditions, including cancer, type two diabetes, musculoskeletal pain, depression and anxiety.

“We need to spread the message about the power of moving more.

“I hope people will visit our website and get inspired to be more active in the months ahead.”

National Fitness Day is co-ordinated by ukactive – the trade body for the fitness, leisure and physical activity sector.

It says that gyms, pools and leisure centres continue to drive physical activity levels across the UK. The UK Health & Fitness Market Report 2026 says there are a record 12.2 million people now members of a health and fitness club.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust regularly runs activities to help Fife families access facilities on a budget, from low-cost fun days to Quid-a-Kid sessions during school holidays. It promotes new offers through its main website and social media channels.

Upcoming work includes a packed programme of activities for the October school holidays as well as ongoing improvements to leisure facilities across Fife, supported by Fife Council.

Cameron Saunders, CEO of ukactive, said: “National Fitness Day is about showing the nation that physical activity is for everyone, regardless of age, background or experience.

“Today, more people are discovering the enjoyment, connection and rewards of being more active in their daily lives. National Fitness Day is a chance to come together to celebrate being active and also the brilliant work of our local gyms, pools, leisure centres and sports clubs.

“I’m delighted that the people of Fife will be supported to join in the fun, thanks to Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.”
