Fifers get active with 20 million visits

We are marking over 20 million visits by active locals to our facilities across the region.

Not only have we recorded year-on-year growth in attendances since launching in 2008 to operate and manage Fife Council’s 14 facilities across the region, we have recently reached the 20 million milestone.

Figures released by us show that customer visits grew by 20,000 for April 2016 to March 2017 and that our efforts to engage with target age groups has also been a success – with attendances by under 18s increasing by 5 per cent and similarly, over 60s visiting in greater numbers with an increase of 5 per cent from older adults.

Welcoming the milestone, Ed Watson, chief executive, said: “The trust is committed to getting more people more active more of the time – recording year-on-year growth in attendance and reaching 20 million visits is a remarkable achievement and I’d like to thank customers for their support as well as our staff for their hard work.

“As a charitable trust, being able to continue to attract users means we can reinvest surpluses, as with our recently announced £1.1 million gym refurbishment programme, and deliver unrivalled quality and choice at affordable prices. Not only do we offer the best facilities and programmes in the region, but we are committed to supporting people living with long-term health conditions and those on lower incomes so that the health and wellbeing benefits of getting active are accessible to all”

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Convener, Community and Housing Services Committee, said: “I am delighted that visitor numbers continue to grow year-on-year, and I am so pleased that local people are really enjoying using local leisure and sports facilities.

“Fife’s facilities are encouraging more people to get active more often. Addressing inequalities through access to sport and physical activity is a priority for us, and we’re keen to highlight that there are lots of activities people of all ages to try out. This is part of our drive to improve the health and wellbeing of all our local communities.”
