Let’s get to know Clare at Michael Woods Gym

What made you become a gym instructor?

I got into fitness after having my children quite close in age after starting a gym myself, I fell in love with the fitness industry and decided to change career from a hairdresser and started studying to become a fitness instructor/ Personal Trainer.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I love to help people reach their goals no matter how big or small even helping them make those first steps through the gym doors, that itself is a massive achievement. Every client is different, and they join for their own reasons but, we are all here to better ourselves whether it be mentally, physically, health related or injury.

What is the best related gym advice you have been given?

Do not compare yourself to others - your workout is YOUR workout.

What is your Favourite way to train and why?

I love strength training and HIIT, I do CrossFit and try and train 4 - 5 days a week. I have learnt how to adapt my training the past 4 years after my Cancer diagnosis and car accident. I try not let it define who I am. I love training as it makes me mentally and physically stronger.

What is your favourite motivational quote?

“Don’t wait until you reach your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of each step you take towards reaching that goal”

“Love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle”

“Summer bodies are made in the winter”

Let’s get to know Cammy at Michael Woods Gym

What made you become a gym instructor?

The reason I decided to get into the fitness industry was due to the fact I have always loved health and fitness and after coming out of playing sports full time I wanted to help others be the best version of themselves. I feel rewarded when I can help someone, so being able to do this daily appealed to me to become a gym instructor.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I get great satisfaction from helping people who come into the gym work towards goals they have set themselves. I also enjoy the social aspect that my job gives, as it allows me to meet all different individuals and build relationships. The other thing I enjoy is figuring out what people enjoy and what makes them driven to work towards their ambitions and goals.

What is the best related gym advice you have been given?

Become very good at the basics.

What is your Favourite way to train and why?

I have always enjoyed strength training as it has benefited me playing sports. This can also be transferrable to daily tasked movements to help a better way of life for young and old. More recently I have been doing CrossFit - which I have found to enjoy, as it gets the mixture of complex lifts, HIIT and endurance training.

What is your favourite motivational quote?

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”

What made you want to become a Gym Instructor?

I studied Fitness Health and Exercise and Fife College where I found my passion for the Gym. It was here I gained my qualifications towards becoming an Instructor and expanded my knowledge of training and the human body. I joined FSLT in 2017 and have since worked at various sites and met lots of great people along the way.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy interacting with customers and helping towards achieving their fitness goals, It's a rewarding job helping others.

What's the best gym related advice you've been given?

Everybody starts somewhere, Don't compare your progress to that of others.

What's your favourite way to train and why?

I have always favoured training for strength and athleticism, it has a carryover to improvement in my sport (Rugby). As well as having functional strength for everyday activities we take for granted. I believe everybody should be doing strength training to some degree.

"Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose."
