Our Classes

Our Classes

Our Active Move classes help enhance mobility, manage pain, regulate blood pressure, control weight, and address various other health concerns.

Evidence also shows that higher levels of physical activity are associated with lower risk of cancer recurrence and mortality following breast, colon, and prostate cancer

Furthermore, specific doses of exercise have been shown to effectively address anxiety, depression, physical function deficits, cancer related fatigue, bone health, sleep, lymphoedema and quality of life.[4]

Here is what our members think of the classes we run here at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

Our Active Move Class will

Our Active Move Class will

  • Improve both your mental and physical wellbeing
  • Offer a programme tailored to your individual needs
  • Support movement, back care and other mobility challenges you may experience
  • Provide genuine support and a sense of community with others living with cancer
  • Create a safe, welcoming and relatable environment for everyone

The health and wellbeing advisor will work with each person to create a tailored physical activity programme to suit their needs. Participants can attend this programme for as long as they want to.

Participants will also receive the opportunity to learn how to use our gym facilities and get support to become independently active.

Everyone is here for different reasons but share the same goals, to move more and feel better. Meet our members who shape the classes we host here at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

Jess aged 59, Dunfermline

Jess aged 59, Dunfermline

Jess was diagnosed with bowel cancer and underwent extensive surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She had a very active job as a gardener but had not attended any classes or a gym prior to joining the Active Move class. She was very anxious about coming along and was very unsure about what she could or couldn’t do with a stoma. She wanted advice on how to strengthen her core and avoid getting a hernia. By attending the class with her instructor Susan, she feels confident about being physically active. She has increased her core strength and knows what do safely. She feels fitter and leaner as a result and has found a huge sense of achievement.

Brian aged 78, Glenrothes

Brian aged 78, Glenrothes

Brian was diagnosed with prostate cancer and joined the Active Move class to help him build up his strength. In particular, he has enjoyed the support given by his instructor Gavin who he says is very knowledgeable not only about this cancer but about his other health conditions too. Brian says the instructor plays an important role as he motivates him and helps him to feel confident while exercising. He feels physically stronger and is now able to do more physical activity. Importantly, by attending the class, he is encouraged to make it part of his weekly routine.

Daniel aged 55, Dunfermline

Daniel aged 55, Dunfermline

Daniel was diagnosed with bowel cancer and required surgery and chemotherapy which lasted around 20 weeks. He was quite fit prior to his diagnosis and was very keen to return to being health and active as quickly as possible after his treatment. His class instructor, Susan, is knowledgeable, encouraging and supportive which put him at ease when attending the class. He feels much stronger physically but also feels more positive about the future, feeling healthier. He is beginning to feel ‘normal’ again. The other people in the class are very friendly and positive and there is a feeling of openness which has been a huge support for him.
