Since the re-opening of our swimming pools, COVID protocols meant only lane swimming was possible. Now, following thorough risk assessments we are making available pool time for swimmers such as families, disabled and older adults during non-lane swimming sessions.
The sessions will be launched at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, Carnegie Leisure Centre, Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre, East Sands Leisure Centre and Cupar Leisure Centre from December 5 and will be in addition to the public swimming, Learn to Swim and club training sessions already on offer.
Emma Walker, chief executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We have had a great response from local communities since we re-opened centres and although we’ve had to adapt to the latest Level 3 restrictions which prohibits group indoor exercise and sports for adults, we have still been able to offer our gyms and pools for customers.
“We have been working hard to make accessible our pools to those who are not able, or prefer not to, swim in the lane sessions. And, following fantastic work by our teams, we are very pleased to be extending our swim programme to allow families, older adults and disabled customers more choice.
“We continue to receive very high satisfaction customer ratings for our health and safety and social distancing measures which are in place and we feel confident that those who have not yet been able to enjoy time in the pool, will welcome these sessions.”
