Pitreavie Athletics Centre grandstand naming

We are delighted to announce that Pitreavie Athletics Centre has honoured John Mcdonald, a much-respected and accomplished local athletics coach, who passed away last year, with a commemorative naming of the grandstand at the facility.

The move follows a request by Pitreavie Amateur Athletics Club and we were more than happy to work in partnership with Fife Council to facilitate the commemoration.

Wendy Watson, chief operating officer for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “ John McDonald has played a significant role over the years in developing athletic talent in the local area and the trust is fully supportive of the move to mark his coaching legacy which saw support for numerous athletes, including those who made it to world-class level.”

The naming ceremony, which took part on Sunday, 17th December, was part of the annual Pitreavie Amateur Athletics Club jingle bell run. John’s family and friends were there to see the unveiling of the stand’s new plaque in his honour.
