What If… a Conversation Could Make a Difference?

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is joining organisations across Scotland in marking Suicide Prevention Awareness Week from 7th-13th September 2026, including World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September.

“What If”, the national campaign from Suicide Prevention Scotland, encourages people to overcome the uncertainty they may feel about starting a conversation, check in with those around them and reassure anyone who may be struggling that they are not alone and support is available.

Starting a conversation

It can be difficult to know what to say when we are worried about someone. We may be concerned about saying the wrong thing, making the situation worse or not knowing how to respond.

Taking the time to ask how someone is feeling, listening without judgement and helping them find appropriate support can make a real difference.

If you are concerned about someone, asking them directly can open an honest conversation and help them access the support they need.

More than a place to be active

Across our 14 venues, we see how physical activity, social connection and a sense of community can support mental health and wellbeing.

Our venues are not only places to exercise. They are welcoming spaces where customers can establish routines, form friendships, build confidence and feel part of a community.

These experiences are at the heart of our Customer Highlights campaign, which shares real stories from customers who have improved their health, overcome personal challenges and found encouragement and support through becoming more active.

Bob’s story

After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, Bob joined Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre determined to improve his health.

By making positive lifestyle changes and committing to a new fitness routine, Bob lost more than 9 stone and significantly improved his physical health. Beyond the physical changes, becoming more active also supported his mental wellbeing and helped him find encouragement, connection and a sense of community.

Share your story

Your experience could help someone else feel less alone or give them the encouragement to take their own first step.
