What’s Your Thing? Could It Be Volunteering?

Earlier this month, we launched “What’s Your Thing?”, a campaign celebrating the many ways people across Fife choose to get active, feel good, and build confidence.

For some, their thing is swimming lengths in our pools. For others, it’s lifting in the gym, running on the track, stretching in a yoga class, or trying a new activity at one of our venues.

Because being active isn’t one-size-fits-all, it’s about finding what works for you, and sometimes, it’s about sharing that passion with others so they can discover their thing too!

Why Volunteering Might Be Your Thing

At Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, volunteers are more than an extra pair of hands, they’re the heartbeat of our community. They share their skills, energy, and enthusiasm, inspiring others to get involved and find joy in being active.

When you volunteer with us, you’re not just giving your time, you’re helping people take their first steps into something new, building their confidence, and creating moments they’ll never forget. Along the way, you’ll grow your own skills, meet new people, and become part of something bigger.

Right now, we’re looking for friendly, motivated people to join us in a variety of roles, including opportunities linked to one of the most exciting moments of the year – the reopening of Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre!

A Range of Roles to Match Your Thing

Everyone’s “thing” is different, so we offer volunteering opportunities to suit a wide mix of skills, interests, and personalities.

Alongside the roles featured below, there are opportunities in aquatics, sports and coaching, health and wellbeing, events, pickleball (one of the UK’s fastest growing sports), and work experience placements. Whether you love being active, enjoy meeting people, or want to share your passion to inspire others, there’s a role here for you.

Spotlight Roles

If your thing is the energy of a busy fitness space… you’ll love being a Gym Volunteer!

You’ll be part of the action in our gyms, greeting and supporting members, assisting instructors, and helping people make the most of their workouts. You’ll also share information about our services and upcoming events, so members know what’s on and how to get involved.

If your thing is motivating and supporting others… you’ll love being a Gym Buddy!

You’ll be a friendly face on the gym floor, helping members feel comfortable, offering encouragement, and supporting instructors to deliver a great experience. This role is perfect for people who enjoy connecting with others and celebrating their progress, with the chance to explore training pathways if you want to develop further.

If your thing is making people feel welcome… you’ll love being a Meet & Greet Volunteer!

As the first person visitors see, you’ll set the tone for their experience, offering a warm welcome, guiding them to where they need to go, and sharing information about our programmes and events.

Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre – Reopening Autumn 2025

We’re getting ready to welcome the community back to a fully transformed Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre. In partnership with Fife Council and Fife Cultural Trust, this exciting refurbishment will bring leisure and cultural services together under one roof, including the local library.

This is more than just a reopening, it’s the start of a new chapter for Cowdenbeath, and you could be part of it from day one. Whether you’re welcoming people into the new facilities, supporting activities, or simply sharing your passion to inspire others, this is your chance to help shape the experience for everyone who walks through the door.

Why Volunteer with Us?

Volunteering with Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is about finding your thing and sharing it to make a difference.

  • Make a difference where it matters – Help people across Fife get active, feel good, and build confidence. Every conversation, every helping hand, every moment of encouragement inspires someone to keep going.
  • Grow your skills and experience – From communication and teamwork to customer service and confidence, you’ll gain valuable skills you can use in work, study, and life.
  • Connect with people – Meet like-minded people, make new friends, and enjoy being part of a welcoming, supportive team.
  • Look after your own wellbeing – Giving back feels good, and you’ll also have access to our wellbeing champions, support services, and staff perks.
  • Be part of something bigger – Whether it’s helping at a local event or being part of the Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre reopening, you’ll join a movement making a real difference across Fife.

So, whatever your thing is, let’s turn it into something that makes a real difference across Fife. Whether you can give a few hours a week or just the occasional afternoon, there’s a place for you on our volunteer team.
