World Mental Health Day 2025

World Mental Health Day is an important reminder of how crucial it is to look after our mental health just as much as our physical health.

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health difficulty at some point in their lives, and this number is rising. Across Scotland, 83% of adults recognise the importance of physical activity for mental health and wellbeing, yet 35% don’t meet the recommended activity levels. Almost half (47%) of adults say their mental health could be improved through movement, but 1 in 5 find it difficult to make time for it (Scottish Health Survey 2022; Mental Health Foundation, 2024).

At Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, we see every day how movement can make a difference. Exercise releases feel-good endorphins, reduces stress, and builds resilience, helping to ease anxiety and boost overall wellbeing. From a morning swim to a group fitness class, or even an on-demand workout through our Fife Leisure App, small moments of movement can have a big impact on your mental health.

Our Customer Highlights: Real Stories of Wellbeing

Our Customer Highlights campaign shares real stories from our members, people who have used fitness to support their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Take John, who joined Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre to improve his fitness and mental health. At first, he felt anxious about stepping into a new environment, but with encouragement from our team, he found his confidence and now takes part in multiple classes every week.
