Charitable trust, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, is hosting a careers road shows at Carnegie Leisure Centre, Monday, April 17, Michael Woods Sports and Centre, Glenrothes, Monday, April 24, and Cupar Sports Centre, Monday, May 1st – all from 4 – 7pm.
The move comes as the trust recently announced it will extend opening hours and timetables at East Sands Leisure Centre and Cupar Sports Centre.
Last year, the trust launched Take the Opportunity, a recruitment initiative which offered free National Pool Lifeguard Qualification to anyone looking to start a career in the sports and leisure industry.
Diane Pirie, from Cupar, took the plunge and signed up for the initiative, is now a fully-qualified leisure attendant.
She said: “I am a keen swimmer and knew the staff at Cupar Sport Centre well and could see the affect a shortage of qualified staff was having on the ability to deliver programmes. When I saw the Take the Opportunity initiative, I thought I’d give it a go.
“I have been a beauty therapist for over 30 years but was inspired to do something different and help out the local community. I would say to anyone to come along to the careers road show and find out if it more about working in the leisure industry – it offers flexibility and no matter what your previous experience, the training and supportive staff makes starting or changing a career, really easy.”
The trust is rated one of the top ten Scottish employers for gender equality with women and men earning equal median hourly pay and 61 per cent of female staff in the highest paid jobs – the organisation is encouraging people from across Fife to come along and find out more about a career in the leisure industry.
With 14 sites across Fife and a wide range of programmes and facilities the trust is looking to recruit people who are enthusiastic and passionate about customer service and the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity. Potential roles include gym staff, swimming instructors, group fitness instructors, leisure attendants, reception and administration staff.
In addition to being part of a dynamic and community-focused organisation, employees of the trust are entitled to free access to its programmes and facilities with its Active Staff card, regular personal development training opportunities and 30 per cent discount for friends and families to Leisure Active – the trust’s low-cost membership scheme.
